SIMUL-qPCR Salmonella & STEC with GFP Assay
Description
Food processors and associated laboratories can use the SIMUL-qPCR System as a quick and reliable method for detecting Salmonella and Shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC) in leafy greens, dried cannabis flower (>0.3% THC), and dried hemp flower (<0.3% THC). All SIMUL-qPCR assays are designed to have the same instrument run time allowing simultaneous identification of all SIMUL-qPCR assays. In addition, each assay utilizes the power of multiplexing several targets during the same run. The SIMUL-qPCR Salmonella & STEC Assay with GFP incorporates a multiplex approach to identifying Salmonella and STEC and brings an added layer of assurance with the addition of the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) positive control.
For quality control purposes, many laboratories utilize quality control strains tagged with a green fluorescent protein. This allows laboratories to easily identify if any potential positives in the laboratory were cross contaminated with their internal quality control strain, and thus a false positive. Traditionally, laboratories have needed to streak out potential positives onto plates, wait an additional 24-72 hours, and then place those plates under a specific wavelength of UV light to see if the colonies fluoresce. The SIMUL-qPCR Salmonella & STEC with GFP Assay eliminates the added labor and time spent streaking a plate and waiting for results, while providing real-time results indicating if the potential positive derived from an internal control strain. If is the potential positive caused by the internal laboratory strain, GFP target will amplify. If the sample is naturally contaminated, only the target of interest will amplify.
This test kit is for the detection of both Shiga-toxin producing E. coli and Salmonella, and the reported labeled strains are UVQC E. coli (O157:H7) and UVQC Salmonella, which contains a Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) marker.
One kit contains 96 tests. One case contains 6 kits.

Benefits:
- Concurrent detection of both the target bacteria and a reporter labeled QC (catalog number: SMRT-UVQCECH7-020 and SMRT-UVQCSAL-020) of the target bacteria: By detecting both the target bacteria and the QC strain, the assay can confirm the presence of the target bacteria while also detecting any potential issues with the assay, such as sample or reagent contamination. This ensures the results are accurate, reducing the risk of false positives.
- Fast and accurate detection of harmful pathogens: Our assay is designed to detect Shiga toxin-producing E.coli and Salmonella quickly and accurately (as little as 12 hours when enriched in EREB; 26 hours for other matrices), enabling the food industry to take immediate action in the event of a positive test result.
- Easy to use: The assay is easy to use and can be performed by personnel with minimal training.
- Cost-effective: The assay is cost-effective, as it eliminates the need for additional testing to confirm the results, reducing the overall cost of testing.
