Hektoen Enteric Agar (HE)
Hektoen enteric agar (HE) is a selective and differential agar primarily used to recover Salmonella and Shigella from patient specimens. HE contains indicators of lactose fermentation and hydrogen sulfide production; as well as inhibitors to prevent the growth of Gram-positive bacteria.
Enzymatic Digest of Animal Tissue 16.5g
Yeast Extract 3g
Bile Salts Mixture 4.5g
Lactose 12g
Sucrose 12g
Salicin 2g
Sodium Chloride 5g
Sodium Thiosulfate 5g
Ferric Ammonium Citrate 1.5g
Bromthymol Blue 0.065g
Acid Fuchsin 0.1g
Agar 13.5g
Final pH: 7.5 ± 0.2 at 25°C
